Similarly to Alaior and Ferrerries, Es Mercadal Menorca finds itself in the centre of the beautiful island. Rustic old squares with beautiful streets, all nestled below Mount Toro.
Es Mercadal Menorca Overview
Centrally located on the island and found just off the central spinal road, the Me-1. A great place to explore, or conveniently located as potential heading from one end of the island to the other.
Being central, don’t expect any beaches in the town but instead expect charming streets, Menorcan fiestas, the highest point in Menorca on your doorstep and easy access to the more rocky and rugged north, coastal towns such as Fornells.
Es Mercadal Beaches
As afore mentioned, beaches in Es Mercadal are non existent with its central location. Nevertheless opportunity to enjoy Menorca’s coastline and beaches can be found in the relatively close holiday resorts of Fornells and Arenal de’n Castell.
Fornells is a rocky coastal location, with the beach not in the main town and can create some confusion. Head to Playas de Fornells for their beach. As for Arenal d’en Castell, head to the resort town and you’ll be hard pressed not miss it.
Es Mercadal Amenities
Es Mercadal is an all year around town with plenty of locals living here through winter time. With that in mind, local amenities, shops and restaurants are open throughout the winter, unlike many of the coastal resorts, such as Son Bou.
Local bank can be found at CaixaBank Agrobank and the Es Mercadal Pharmacy can be found in the form of Farmacia Martínez Riudavets. Tobacconist Exp. Nº 1 Estanc des Mercadal and lastly, local post office Oficina de Correos again to the south of the town.

Es Mercadal Nightlife
With limited tourists, the nightlife in Es Mercadal is limited and mainly focussed around local cafés and bars, small bottles of beer or even a Caña or two (a small glass of beer). Don’t expect Bingo, or live entertainment like you would in the large coastal resort hotels. But for something more lively, we definitely recommend heading to Ciutadella.
That being said, there are certainly a few bars to enjoy a drink, wait for the sun to set and the evening to take over. First up Es Gurugú and Saboy can be found right near the towns centre, here you can enjoy an al fresco drink in the evening warmth. An alternative café style bar for an evening drink include Cafeteria Ca’n Bep. Open slightly later than most is Disco Bar Leo to the north of the town centre, don’t expect a nightclub, but a place to enjoy a nice Pomada into the late evening.
Es Mercadal Hotels
Similarly to the other central towns of Menorca, Alaior and Ferreries, even Es Migjorn, Es Mercadal hotel options are somewhat limited. Definitely not as extensive as many of the Menorcan coastal holiday resorts such as Santo Tomas, Cala Galdana & Cala’n Forcat for instance.

S Estancia Suites Es Mercadal
First up the S Estancia Suites Es Mercadal. Open all year around and with only 19 rooms an intimate and cosy option just to the North of the town centre, opposite the local sport centre.
A boutique style hotel expertly decorated with outdoor swimming pool, multiple room options from double, suite, superior and premium room. All with air conditioning, a flat-screen TV with satellite channels, a minibar, a coffee machine, a shower and complimentary toiletries.

Hotel S’Antiga Adults Only Es Mercadal
Another boutique, town centre option, the Hotel S’Antiga Boutique Es Mercadal is a quaint adults only option right in the town centre. With only 3 floors and 10 rooms, intimacy and a relaxed stay is paramount.
Each room comes with fully equipped bathrooms (some with a bathtub), desk, air-conditioning and TV with internet access. And there are 5 room types to pick from, standard or adapted double, superior double with or without terrace and the deluxe junior suite.
As with all boutique B&Bs, amenities are limited but you can still expect a small courtyard swimming pool, beach pack, packed picnic breakfast, laundry service, wi-fi throughout the hotel and more amenities. Worth noting that many of these are paid extra, but amenities available nevertheless.

Hotel m27 Es Mercadal
Towards the West of the town centre, although sounding like an English motorway this boutique hotel comes very highly rated, with a modern, fresh look and feel with just 8 rooms.
As you’d expect, each room comes with plenty of extra touches. From Free Wi-Fi, Air conditioning, Fridge/mini-bar, Smart Tv, comfortable beds and pillows, Private bathroom with rain-effect shower and more. Room types vary from double rooms with and without a terrace, double attic room and the larger family suite room.
Amenities are again limited, being a B&B. However expect friendly hosts, daily breakfast, outdoor pool, bike rental and some fantastic recommended cycle routes.

Hotel Jeni & Restaurant
Last but not least we have Hotel Jeni Es Mercadal. Another well rated hotel in Es Mercadal and perhaps slightly more affordable than the others. A variety of rooms stretching over two floors, totalling 56. Not as small as others in the town, but not large but any means.
All rooms comes equipped with air-conditioning, TV, minibar, private bathroom and almost all rooms with a balcony or Juliette balcony. Simply decorated, clean and crisp with minimal fuss. A small choice of rooms to opt for, single rooms and a variety of double rooms as well as a larger superior room.
Amenities are limited, however large garden area, heated outdoor pool, sun terrace, bar, restaurant, sauna and jacuzzi provide plenty of opportunities to relax and unwind.

With its central location, multiple Menorcan buses stop and go through Es Mercadal, or begin there. This make buses a great mode of transport if you’re staying in Es Mercadal or simply want to visit the town, coastal resort such as Santo Tomas or even the larger cities of Ciutadella and Mahon.
In summer serving Es Mercadal you have 6 different bus routes. Including Lines 1, 41, 45, 51, 71 & 75.
