To begin with, Cala Galdana is located on the South coast of Menorca, with a wonderfully protected golden sandy beach with plenty of amenities, a great selection of accommodation and there’s plenty to keep you entertained during your stay.

Cala Galdana Beach
Featuring on our list of one of the best beaches in Menorca, it makes sense to start with the guide to Cala Galdana with the breath-taking beach.
A large bay surrounded by cliffs with turquoise blue water, fine water sand and gentle waves crashing against the shore. Cala Galdana is well known for its beautiful beach.
If laying down and soaking up the sun is for you, then you’re free to lay down on the beach as you please. But you can also hire an umbrella and 2 sun loungers for around €20 for the day, or slightly cheaper after 15:00 when the main crowds start to filter away.
There are a number of great facilities on the beach of Cala Galdana too, including toilets, car parking, mobility access, bars and restaurants nearby too. Water sports are also available, including Kayaking, pedalo’s and boat hire too from Sunboats Menorca, found on the beach itself.
For best views of the beach, we recommend heading to the Mirador la Punta viewpoint, on the East cliff tops. The cliffs on the left if facing out to see from Cala Galdana beach.
Cala Galdana Amenities
There are several Cala Galdana supermarkets that will stock most of what you will need for your holiday essentials if you’re staying in a villa or apartment.
For example, there is a Cife Supermercats 2000 on the corner of the parade of shops beneath the Galdana Gardens. Another supermarket in Cala Galdana is located slightly further up the hill from ARTIEM Audax Hotel, here. Heading further up the hill towards the Floramar Aparthotel there is another supermarket option. These are all in a similar location, whereas there’s another supermarket located next to the Restaurante La Cala, a Proxim supermarket – this option also has an ATM.
At this Proxim supermarket is where you can find an ATM. There’s another ATM located just in front of the restaurant, ATM for Tobogán Cala Galdana.
There are other souvenirs shops dotted around the resort of Cala Galdana selling various trinkets and gifts, as well as inflatables and other beachwear and products. However, with the other central villages an easy bus journey away such as Alaior or Ferreries, it may be worth heading there for greater selection.
The Pharmacy in Cala Galdana can be found here, located on the Passatge Riu. Open everyday in the summer, just be aware the shut for a Spanish siesta during the middle of the day.

Top Cala Galdana Restaurants
There are plenty of restaurants in Cala Galdana serving up a variety of international, traditional Spanish and Menorcan dishes.
One of the highest rated Cala Galdana restaurants is Restaurant Cala Mitjana, serving beautiful Mediterranean cuisine such as grilled squid, mussels, garlic prawns, grilled sea bream, fillet steak and plenty more. Another well rated restaurant is Restaurante Trevi, similarly serving Mediterranean cuisine including fresh Menorcan red prawns, fried squid and the traditional Menorcan Caldereta (typically a fish stew). Although on a Spanish island, if you still wanted your fix of Italian cuisine. This can be found in the form of Delit Restaurant Pizzeria, although not just a pizzeria, Delit serves various other Mediterranean and European delights.
FRANCESCA Mediterranean Grill, found just further down by the Proxim supermarket. Serving a variety of refreshing salads, ceviche, fish and meat tacos and more. All with a slight focus on Mexican cuisine. there website is here, which includes links to their menu.
A final mention goes to Bar de platja Toni. A popular bar restaurant directly on the beach front. Typically very popular due to its prime location. Serving up tapas dishes, fresh fish, salads and more typical international cuisine such as burgers.
Being a large resort with the large beach on offer, attracts many options for accommodation and thus attracts many restaurants. We’ve mentioned a few above and please find more restaurants in Cala Galdana below.

Cala Galdana Nightlife
Larger than some of the other coastal resort means a slightly larger selection of bars. Of course, the larger hotels will typically have a great selection of daytime and evening entertainment to pass the time and enjoy your evenings. There are bar/restaurant style venues too in which you can easily sit, watch the world go by and have a relaxing drink. Below are some of our favourites in our guide to Cala Galdana.
Blanc I Negre serves a variety of great drinks, cocktails and a limited food menu, a great option if you want to watch any football and the majority of other popular sporting events with quite a few television screens on offer. Noted for it’s pleasant atmosphere and hospitable staff.
Pub Mississippi in the centre of Cala Galdana on the Passatge Riu is one of the bars to stay open the latest in the resort, if not the latest. So if you’re looking for somewhere to head for a late tipple in the summer then we’d recommend Pub Mississippi. It won’t blow you away and nothing fancy, but, laid back, a good selection of drinks, pleasant background music, billiard table, darts and some small snacks to keep you happy.
A small bar close to many of the accommodation, Lighthouse Pub is a pleasant enough stop for a few drinks. Not open terribly late, but happy early drink deals early in the evening are a welcome surprise, around 19:00-20:00pm.
Cala Galdana Hotels
Meliá Cala Galdana
Probably the more extravagant hotel in the resort with its 5 star rating. A fantastic location and views out to the Cala Galdana bay make for a beautiful setting. Featuring on our best hotels in Menorca guide its understandable why it’s first on our list.
With over 300 room capacity and plenty of room types on offer from twin rooms, premium rooms, family rooms and rooms in their premium area, The Level – an exclusive room choice full of superior comforts.
The Meliá Cala Galdana offers 3 restaurants serving up a variety of foods: Cape Nao Beach Club & Restaurant – offering fresh and vibrant Menorcan products and healthy Mediterranean cuisine; Casa Nostra Restaurant – providing a little taste of Italy in the resort, including a oven-fired pizza. Lastly, Mosaico Buffet Restaurant dedicated to high quality salads, meats, fish, seasonal vegetables and live cooking.
Other amenities at the Meliá Cala Galdana include multiple pools, an evening entertainment programme, kids club, gym, an activity programme throughout the day and more.

ARTIEM Audax
The Artiem Audax in Cala Galdana is an adults-only offering, with some great reviews and slightly more intimate than the Meliá with under 250 total rooms available.
The 250 rooms come in a variety room types, from premium sea view, premium sea view with Jacuzzi to junior suites and more.
Artiem Audax has multiple restaurants to explore flavours from around the world: Oliva restaurant, with on the spot interaction with chefs featuring national and international cuisine; Galdana Restaurant, a buffet restaurant providing Mediterranean influenced mornings and Asian-Mediterranean fusion dishes in the evening. Evolving into the Oliva Terrace for an outdoor space. Blue Café provides an intimate space overlooking the bay for classic tapas and drinks. Finally, The View – Pool club, Balinese beds, beautiful views of the Cala Galdana bay and flavours from around the world.

Hotel ILUNION Menorca
Although on our hotels list (mainly because of the name), the Hotel ILUNION are more apartment style accommodation. A tamer affair than some others on our Cala Galdana hotels list. However, Hotel ILUNION Menorca can still provide a lovely stay in the resort.
123 rooms are available, ranging from various 1 and 2 bedroom options including small kitchens. Although, the Ilunion Menorca restaurant serves Mediterranean cuisine, as well as a bar-cafeteria and poolside snack bar with a terrace.
Amenities include mini club for the children, an outdoor pool with panoramic views, a buffet restaurant, bar, Internet Point, free Wi-Fi and a car park

Minura Cala Galdana & Apartments
Moving back to slightly larger hotels. The Minura Cala Galdana & Apartments provides just over 250 rooms, with great variety of standard hotel rooms as well as apartments.
Of the 250 rooms you have great variety including various double rooms, single rooms, superior rooms, family rooms, even suites available. Alternatively, apartments including 1 bedrooms and 2 bedrooms, featuring kitchen and cooking facilities.
There are a multitude of food & drink options, which can cost extra. Including: Es Llauts buffet restaurant, Piano bar, Snack bar – Amurada and Snack bar – Oasis.
Amenities include multiple pools available, a daytime and evening entertainment programme, Pool tables
Table tennis, fitness centre including various treatments and more.

Finishing up with the Floramar Aparthotel that features just over 70 rooms in a cosy environment. With multiple options of room on offer, including: Studios, superior one bedrooms, two bedrooms and superior two bedrooms, suites and more. All including kitchenette and cooking facilities for those who want to test their cooking skills during their stay.

Galdana Gardens Apartments
The Galdana Gardens Apartments are one of the more popular apartments available with its relatively central location and close proximity to the beautiful golden sand beach.
50 apartments provide 1 double bedroom, as well as living-dining room with 2 sofa-beds, complete bathroom, terrace or balcony, electric kitchen, fridge, satellite television and air conditioning.
Other facilities include an outdoor pool with children’s section, barbeque area, garden, private parking, WiFi areas and more.

Apartamentos Alta Galdana
The Alta Galdana apartments provide simple self catering accommodation of 35 apartments in 5 separate buildings. 2 bedroom options sleeping up to 4 people in well equipped kitchenettes for your daily cooking needs, all within a short walk to the Cala Galdana beach.

Cala Galdana Villas
Being a large resort combined with plenty of amenities, beautiful beach and walking trail, there are multiple Cala Galdana villas to choose from around the resort.
The Cala Galdana villas come in all sorts of shapes and sizes. Additionally, you will be usually expected to hire the whole villa. And if you don’t fill every bed in the villa, the costs will increase. So our tip is to try to find the right villa for your part size.
But typically, villas in Cala Galdana will come with a private outdoor pool, well equipped kitchenette, sun loungers and private parking. Not all villas come with air-conditioning so please be aware.

As mentioned on our guide to Santo Tomas, the easiest way to explore Menorca is by car. Allowing you the flexibility and speed to navigate the island, but also the freedom. Our guide to Cala Galdana also happens to primarily recommend hiring a car if possible and you are a keen explorer of the island. An additional benefit of Cala Galdana is being relatively central on the island, making it a great base to begin exploring Menorca from.
Cala Galdana Car Hire

Hiring a car during your stay in Cala Galdana allows the opportunity to fully explore the island, being particularly where you visit. As opposed to being shackled somewhat by public transport, or taxis. It makes visiting the capital Mahon a breeze, or even visiting some of the best beaches in Menorca.
Cala Galdana Bus Routes
The buses servicing Cala Galdana are better than many other resorts. Allowing you to easily reach Ciutadella and other main towns on the island such as Alaior, Es Mercadal, Ferreries as well as the capital, Mahon.

Cala Galdana Taxis
You won’t find Uber, FreeNow or any similar private tax firms on the island of Menorca. If you want a taxi, you will either have to book one here. Or you will need to wait at designated taxi ranks around the island, called Paradas de Taxi. Here are the taxi rank locations on the island
The taxis in Menorca are all white and the fare ticker is easily visible once you’re inside. Fares are regulated and restricted based on distance, so your taxi driver should be able to provide an approximate fare to and from anywhere in Cala Galdana and beyond.
It’s worth noting that taxis are only limited to four passengers.
And if you require a taxi to Cala Galdana directly from Mahon airport, they’re easy to find on ground 0 too.
Airport Transfers from Mahon Airport to Cala Galdana
Mahon airport to Cala Galdana directly should take around 50 minutes. Menorca doesn’t suffer too badly from traffic, even in the summer, so the journey time is relatively consistent.
You have a various options to choose from for Mahon airport transfers to Cala Galdana. You can reach Cala Galdana by car hire, taxi, shared transfers and even local buses.
