The town of Ferreries is situated almost in the centre of the island of Menorca, as you’d expect there are no beaches to be found within the town. Nevertheless, beaches in Menorca are always close by thanks to the diminutive size of the island.

The closest beach to Ferreries town is Cala Galdana. It also happens to be the easiest beach to reach from Ferreries town, by heading south on the Me-22 road, follow the signs and you’ll be there in no time. Alternatively, head south east on the Me-20 passing through the tiny town of Es Migjorn Gran onwards on the Me-18 to Santo Tomas and the gorgeous resort town and beaches. Ferreries town is an all year round town with plenty of shops and amenities open throughout the winter as well as summer. Unlike the coastal resort of Santo Tomas mentioned earlier.

Historical Landmarks In Ferreries

Sant Bartomeu Church

The town of Ferreries owes itself to Sant Bartomeu Church, having sprung around the church itself. Used by peasants scattered around the local countryside, there was no town or population around Ferreries until the 17th century.

A very simple small church, erected using marés stone. Documents identify the earliest form of church here being built around 1362. A new church on the site built in 1695 and completed between 1730-1740. Rebuilt again in 1798 due to weak foundations.

Son Mercer de Baix

A short 15 minute drive, or hours walk, to the south of Ferreries town you have the prehistoric settlement. This is understood to have been inhabited between the early Bronze Age (1400 BC) and the Talayotic Period (1000 BC).

Binissues

Another attraction located outside, but nearby Ferreries you have Binissues. A small house-museum showcasing the life and work of farmers with two collections of an ethnological and the Museum of Natural Sciences of Menorca are on display, with more than 8,000 elements.

Ferreries Town Activities

Similar to Alaior, being inland you won’t have the coastal resort sea activities on your doorstep. However there’s plenty to do in and around the area of Ferreries.

Locally in the town centre, you have the Ferreries auditorium with plenty of shows and music, Auditori de Ferreries. For those wanting more of Menorcan history, head to the Ferreries Centre de Geologia de Menorca.

If you’re wanting something more active, children can head to the local playground at Parque infantil Plaza. Adults, you have the local Yoga Studio in Nura Yoga Studio, located here. Alternatively, multiple gyms and fitness studios are located in Ferreries, Gimnas Fitness Ferreries, ABfuntrain and Gimnàs En Forma.

Finally, you have the traditional Menorca festival – Jaleo. Ferreries have their own Jaleo in the summer which typically falls around 23, 24 and 25th of August. Our advice for a late night would be to head to Ciutadella. Here you can find plenty of late night bars and nightclubs as well as café style bars to grab a drink and bite to eat from.

The nightlife in Ferreries is different to that of the coastal resorts. Bars and cafes provide the hustle and bustle, local chatting over a small beer of glass of wine. Head to any of the cafes we listed above. Alternatively, head to Dylan Bar or even piano bar, Likens.

Ferreries Bus Routes

With its central location many buses start, head to or pass through Ferreries. Making it relatively easy to get to for many coastal resorts as well as the two main cities in the east and west of Menorca, Mahon and Ciutadella.

In summer passing through Alaior you have 7 different bus routes. Including Lines 1, 32, 33, 44, 51, 71 and 73. Outside of summer be sure to check the official Menorcan bus route website here. Prices vary and so do the timetables, depending on the journey length, your start and end destination.

Airport Taxi transfer to Ferreries

Taxi transfers from Mahon Airport to Ferreries take approximately 35 minutes or so due to its distance from the airport. Although, connected through the main motorway road on the island. There’s also a taxi rank at Mahon Airport outside of the main airport terminal. Costing around €40 one way per taxi.
